Networking & Trade-
This session allows for entrepreneurs to sample each others products and open up discussions on possible collaborations & trade.

Fuck Up Nights

FuckUp Night is most probably the realest entrepreneurship event in the world. Over 10 000 people in over 100 cities gather every month to hear three entrepreneurs share the reality of entrepreneurship. The explainer video i watched stated that "The event is dedicated to three kinds of people: who have failed, those who will fail and the liars". I think this is a powerful format in that it digresses from the fantasy success stories that most entrepreneurship events peddle. And rather than ignore, bury and hide the failure this is an event to embrace it, talk about it and learn from it. With a slogan like: "Through your failure, the world will thank you" it truly is a special event worth attending. It is, at its core,

Startup Grind

Startup Grind is arguably one of the biggest entrepreneurship events in the world with a global footprint that spans 200 cities, 98 countries and 1000 000 entrepreneurs. Currently three South African cities host Startup Grind events mainly Johannesburg, Cape Town & Durban. The event is traditional in its format as seasoned entrepreneurs are interviewed by a moderator and the audience get to ask some questions at the end. I have no quarels with tradition but the lack of engagement with those in the audience is a big drawback for me. Nonetheless it is an insightful and potentially impactful platform for entreneuers looking to learn from mentors they might not have access to otherwise. The event in Johannesburg takes place once a month at the Standard Bank Incubator.

The Hookup Dinner

The Hookup Dinner or THUD as it is known, is one of the first entrepreneurship events i ever attended. The draw was simple: a platform for entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs to connect, engage and contribute to each others success. I was instantly hooked. The monthly meetings have become a Church like surmon delivered by an incredible host and entrepreneur Selebogo Molefe. Selebogo, together with his team, deliver a networking experience for entrepreneurs unlike any other. A feature of the event i am a big fan of is the Pitch 180 where startups can pitch to the audience and literally crowd fund for cash or other resources. The networking mixer is where things get interesting as the audience must pitch themselves and their businesses to their respective groups in 30 seconds or less. THUD has extended its offering to other features such as the THUDstartupvisa tours which help entrepreneurs explore other African markets for their products. The Hookup Dinner exists in over 10 cities and and is a growing network of emerging startups & entrepreneurs. If you looking for a networking event with a difference, this is it.
